The sign in the window says Echtes Vintage, kein Second Hand, and they mean it as a rule rather than a slogan. Nothing enters the shop unless it is at least twenty years old. In practice that puts the rails somewhere between the 1980s and the early 2000s, and it quietly rules out most of what the word vintage gets used for elsewhere in Berlin.

Everything is checked, cleaned, and where it needs it, properly restored before it goes out. Sourcing runs from Berlin attics to European archives, which is a wide net for a shop this size.

How it is arranged

Men's and women's hang together rather than in separate rooms, so you browse by shape and fabric instead of by department. It works better than it sounds, particularly for anyone who buys across both.

What comes up most: denim, wide leg trousers, jackets, flannel shirts, corduroy, knitwear. Then the louder end, sequinned party tops, bright faux fur coats, retro anoraks, used sneakers.

Practical

Kopernikusstrasse 18 in Friedrichshain, between Frankfurter Allee and Warschauer Strasse. Monday to Saturday, eleven to seven. Older listings put them on Gruenberger Strasse, ignore those, and do not confuse this shop with vv berlin in Neukoelln, which is a different and pricier business.
